brightkite - first 2 minutes

  • Sign up flow is fairly smooth
  • Visual language is clean - very web 2.0
  • Visual design doesn’t support any hierarchy - no idea what I am supposed to do
  • The UI doesn’t really explain what the product is for
  • Lots of overlap in terminology causing confustion (placemarks, visited place) Most of the terminology is also new so it must be learned

Bottom line - this product will live and die by UGC and currently the UI is not set up to make that happen. Gathering UGC is an art.

Please explain...

How the hell the friggen SF muni system has lasted this long. The answer is: necessity. The city NEEDS a form of mass transportation. I have two fundamental issues with this system: first is the fact that the underground portion of the system only covers 1/3 of the city. This system fault needs no more explanation, this is just plain stupid. Now the second is more of a design nit, one that only designers (and convenience freaks) such as myself would really notice. The availability and ease of purchasing tickets is sporadic and difficult. I hate it. God forbid you have a 5, 10, or 20 dollar bill and want to ride this thing. If this is the case you are SOL. I have so many packs of gum because of this issue I have nutrasweet poisoning. Now let’s say you want a weekly or monthly pass, well then you either get to wait in the dmv like line at the sfmta building, buy one online 3 friggen weeks before the month you want, OR try to find that secret store that sells passes next to the month old muffins. WTF Muni? Could you suck amymore? Yes, you could be the southbay VTA, but still, with all the smart folks in SF how come this problem presists? Please explain… sent via mobile

Grant and green live music

I’m not that old…this shit is just plain too fucking loud. This scene is pretty funny: the only way I can describe it as is “greek”, as in lots of frat boys and sorority girls, hipsters that are putting on a show, and for some odd reason some pseudo gangster looking folk. It’s some mix. sent via mobile

Patagonia Shoes
Patagonia comes out of no where with great shoes! Not to mention Onlineshoes.com (subsidary of ebags) clearly wants of piece of zappos pie. Patagonia appears to be blending the DIY Simple shoes style with their outdoors style. So far it’s turning out to be quite stylish.
