hi5 Homepage

This the design and iteration examples for the hi5 homepage redesign.
- One of my first projects at hi5 was redesigning the page the user is taken to after they login. I was able to take a fresh look at the page since I was new to the site and the company which resulted in a much needed clean up that reflected both the user and business needs better.
- This is a wireframe where I started to bring in new elements into the page, for example, the ability to update your status from the homepage, to see the status updates of your most important friends, and to focus on cleaning up the stream a bit.

- In this mock up I was starting to refine the visual design, creating a heavier header to anchor the sites main navigation but keeping the content area relatively light and clean. This 3 column layout was also the same as the existing page thus requiring few changes for the new design.

- In this mock up I was playing with a wider middle column which in the end we decided the extra space dedicated to the stream wasn't used efficiently enough because the majority of the stream updated were short thus having more unused space in the column and overly compressed information in the left and right rails.

- This mock up is very close to what shipped sans the column widths but most of the visual treatments and information organization seen below is what was shipped in the first version of the redesign. We planned on slowly migrating more and more of the final design over with time as to not create an entirely new experience for our users in one release. Also worth noting is this mock shows how we intended on introducing ads into the stream, our advertisers found this to be a very compelling product. We also started pulling nested features out into the stream for example the tag photos button shown on the new photos stream post that would encourage users to tag their friends in new photos which was a very viral feature.
