hi5 Gifts
2011
Interaction Design, Visual Design, Design Management
This is the design for hi5's virtual gifts
  • hi5 introduced a virtual gifts feature for it's users. I led the interaction and visual design for this feature in addition to my design management role. The gifts project had steep revenue expectations and thus was a high profile and fast paced project.
  • This was the high level flow for the gift giving experience including the buying of virtual currency.
  • This was the gift store UI. We wanted to mimmic the real world by using a shelf based design as if the user had actually gone to a toy store and we had to find a scalable way to add the reflection to the images programmatically to make the shelving look more real.
  • As you can see in the speech bubble the gift is shown as wrapped. To continue the real life gift giving experience we wrapped each gift (customizable in future versions) and recipients would unwrap the gifts.
  • This is the ajax pop up we used to allow the user to purchase virtual coins will remaining in the gift store. Click and Buy was one of the 20 different payment transaction platforms we integrated to accommodate our primarily international based users.
  • This UI shows the completion of using the recipient auto-complete and the success messaging for purchasing virtual coins.
  • This is the hi5 homepage where users first come after signing in. Gifts are delivered directly into their stream so they can receive the gift in the place they spend most of their time. You can see the wrapped gift below.
  • Users were encouraged to collect gifts and we introduced many other game mechanics to the system to help encourage gift giving. Below is the user's profile module which shows off the gifts they've received. The faded one implies that the gift is not viewable by anyone besides the profile owner so that privacy concerns around gift giving were addressed.
